UNILAG's mass communication department produces an all-female cohort of first-class graduates

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has achieved a historic milestone as its Department of Mass Communication produced 18 all-female first-class graduates for the 2023/2024 academic session.


This announcement was made during UNILAG's 55th Convocation Ceremony, where a total of 16,590 students graduated. Among them, 9,865 received first degrees and diplomas, while 6,659 were awarded postgraduate degrees. Additionally, 66 students graduated from the UNILAG Business School (ULBS).


The 18 distinguished first-class graduates include Feranmi Abiola, Ahuruele Akani, Oyindamola Arikawe, Ifedayo Ayilaran, Demiladeogo Bankole, Olaide Bankole, Eniola Daramola, Faith Enang, Temiloluwa Igbinlade, Joy Imanah, Ifeoma Iwelunmor, Chelsea Jegede, Opeyemi Kareem, Eunice Obidi, Frances Odogu, Mofesola Olanrewaju, Funmilola Onabanjo, and Peace Onuoha.

The university celebrated their academic excellence, highlighting their hard work, resilience, and dedication. Reflecting on their journeys, graduates such as Peace Onuoha and Temiloluwa Igbinlade shared personal stories of overcoming challenges through determination, discipline, and effective time management.

Other notable academic highlights included Christian Uwagwu, the best-graduating student from the Faculty of Education with a CGPA of 4.78, and Ibrahim Sefiu, who achieved the highest CGPA of 4.82 in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

UNILAG Vice-Chancellor, Folasade Ogunsola, commended the university’s advancements in academic and infrastructural achievements, particularly the establishment of the MED-AFRICA GMP Laboratory—a groundbreaking facility supporting advanced HIV prevention research within the Faculty of Pharmacy.

This historic accomplishment further cements UNILAG’s status as a leader in academic innovation and excellence in Nigeria and beyond.
