Eight persons lost their lives in a devastating motor accident that occurred on Monday around 8 p.m. in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.
The accident happened when a Toyota Corolla vehicle attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with an oncoming tanker trailer headed to Lagos.
According to eyewitnesses, the victims were all farmers from Niger Zone B who had migrated to Dasu village due to insecurity in their communities.
An eyewitness described the horrific scene, saying the victims were crushed by the trailer, leading to their untimely demise.
When contacted, Mohammed Sanusi, Assistant Commander of the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, Kutigi branch, confirmed the report.
He disclosed that the head-on collision resulted in the casualties on Monday night.
According to him, “I was shocked when I saw the way the bodies looked in the crushed vehicle… may God Almighty forgive them their shortcomings.”
The bodies of the victims were retrieved and evacuated by the Road Safety Commission personnel, Red Cross, RTEAN, and were buried in Dasu village on Tuesday
