Carabao Cup semi-final: Tottenham pull off shock 1-0 win over Liverpool in first leg

Tottenham Hotspur defeated Liverpool 1-0 in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.

The Reds came into the fixture as heavy favourites to win, as they had already claimed a 6-3 win over Spurs in a Premier League clash in December.

The hosts on the other side, were dealing with several injuries in defence and lost midfielder Rodrygo Bentancur early in this game.

Bentacur’s injury and subsequent withdrawal resulted in a lull in the game as the first half ended goalless.

The second half seemed to be heading in that direction until Dominic Solanke’s goal was chalked off by VAR.

However, Solanke ran through to set up Lucas Bergvall for a late winner.

Tottenham will now take the narrow advantage to Anfield next month.

On Tuesday night, their North London rivals Arsenal lost 2-0 to Newcastle United at the Emirates.
