Police arrest bride over alleged wedding food poisoning in Jigawa
The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a bride and another female suspect over an alleged food poisoning incident at a wedding reception in Jahun Local Government Area of the state.
The incident left one guest dead and the groom critically ill.
Confirming the incident on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, said the command received a report that food served at the wedding reception had been tainted, leading to the unfortunate outcomes.
“We received a report that the bride had tainted the food served at the wedding reception, leaving the groom critically ill. Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the incident, and they are currently in custody,” Adam said.
According to him, the suspects are being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department to uncover the motive behind the alleged act.
“We are working tirelessly to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. Justice will be served,” Adam assured.
Adam further revealed that all other wedding attendees who consumed the poisoned food have been discharged from the hospital. However, one guest succumbed to the poisoning.
“The command urges the public to remain calm and assured that justice will prevail. We will provide more details as the investigation progresses,” he added.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that a personal vendetta may have been the motive, although the police have not confirmed this claim.
The identities of the deceased, the groom, and other victims have not been disclosed.
