EPL: Very difficult – Amorim speaks on substituting Zirkzee after 33 minutes

Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has taken responsibility for substituting Joshua Zirkzee early in their 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle United on Monday night.

United were already two goals down inside the first 20 minutes after goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton.

Amorim responded by taking off Joshua Zirkzee after just 33 minutes and bringing on Kobbie Mainoo.

Zirkzee was then roundly jeered by the home supporters as he walked off.

“It was a very difficult moment [for Zirkzee] and he is a human being,” Amorim said.

“I’m responsible. When you have these kinds of moments, especially in the big clubs, you work really hard to turn things around, especially when you don’t have a lot of time to train the basics to cope with the difficult moments.”
