Six feared dead in Indian hospital fire

At least six people were feared dead, and more than two dozen others were injured when a fire broke out at a private hospital in southern India.

It was gathered that building fires are common in India due to a lack of firefighting equipment and a routine disregard for safety regulations.

The fire reportedly broke out late Thursday night in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, and its cause is still under investigation.

According to the Press Trust of India news agency, all six victims were found unconscious inside a lift at the hospital in the city of Dindigul.

Police Superintendent A. Pradeep stated that around 30 people had been injured, but all were in stable condition.

The Times of India newspaper reported that the fire started in the reception area on the ground floor and rapidly spread to other floors.

This incident comes just weeks after 10 newborns were killed when a fire engulfed a hospital in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier this year, a similar fire broke out at a children’s hospital in New Delhi, killing six infants.

In May, no fewer than 27 people, including several children, lost their lives when a fire broke out at a packed amusement park arcade in the western state of Gujarat.
