Renowned Kannywood actress Rahama Sadau has underscored the necessity of taking control of our narratives and being intentional in our storytelling efforts.

In a discussion with Saturday Beats, she expressed her desire to actively participate in crafting stories that genuinely reflect her community, urging filmmakers to adopt a similar approach.

She emphasized the importance of highlighting African narratives, particularly as international platforms such as Netflix and others create avenues for diverse content.

“I want to be very intentional about telling my own stories. As I always say, we’ve been telling our stories to ourselves for a very long time; now is the time to put ourselves out there even more. With platforms like Netflix and other streaming services, it’s truly a big plus for us.”

Reflecting on the impact of streaming services on Nollywood, the actress remarked, “The presence of streaming platforms has contributed hugely to the growth of the film industry at large. We are now able to tell our stories on a global scale, reaching wider audiences who can see and hear us. I think it’s an amazing development.”
