Rami Malek Seeks Revenge in The Amateur Trailer

20th Century Studios has released the first The Amateur trailer, previewing the upcoming espionage thriller starring Rami Malek, Laurence Fishburne, and more.

What happens in The Amateur trailer?

The trailer follows the story of Charlie Heller (Malek), a brilliant but introverted CIA decoder whose wife is murdered. After being refused the opportunity to go after her killers by his superiors, Heller takes the mission into his own hands, and uses his unique set of skills to track down those responsible.

The Amateur is set to be released in theaters nationwide beginning on April 11, 2025.

Alongside Malek, The Amateur also features an all-star ensemble cast, including Laurence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, Danny Sapani, and more.

“Charlie Heller (Malek) is a brilliant, but deeply introverted decoder for the CIA working out of a basement office at headquarters in Langley whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack,” reads the film’s official synopsis. “When his supervisors refuse to take action, he takes matters into his own hands, embarking on a dangerous trek across the globe to track down those responsible, his intelligence serving as the ultimate weapon for eluding his pursuers and achieving his revenge.”

The Amateur is directed by James Hawes, from a screenplay co-written by Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli. The film is based on the novel of the same by Robert Littell, which was originally published in 1981. The film is produced by Hutch Parker, Dan Wilson, Malek, and Joel B. Michaels, with JJ Hook also attached as an executive producer.
