Sydney Sweeney Passed On ‘A Few’ Projects While Waiting for Euphoria Season 3 To Happen

Sydney Sweeney says she had to pass on “a few” projects while waiting for Euphoria Season 3 to happen.

Sweeney plays Cassandra “Cassie” Howard in HBO’s Euphoria, which premiered in June 2019. The second season of the series, created by Sam Levinson, arrived in January 2022 before it was then renewed for a third season in February 2022.

Euphoria Season 3 has had a number of delays, however, due in part to the 2023 Hollywood strikes and the unexpected deaths of actor Angus Cloud and executive producer Kevin Turen. There have also been various reports that Euphoria Season 3 may not happen due to problems with the scripts and the actors’ busy schedule; however, HBO and Max’s Casey Bloys recently confirmed that production will begin in January 2025.

What did Sydney Sweeney say about Euphoria Season 3?

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Sweeney said that, given all the delays Euphoria Season 3 has had, she had to pass on a handful of different projects in order to keep her shooting schedule open.

“There were definitely a few projects that I had to pass on because I was supposed to be going back to Euphoria,” she said. “But because I am producing now, I was able to say, ‘You know what? I don’t think this is happening. I’m going to put some of my own projects on the slate.’ That’s how Anyone but You happened. Euphoria was supposed to start filming, and I had another film that I was supposed to do, but we couldn’t get cleared and after a few weeks, I realized, this is not happening. So I put in full gear to make Anyone but You.”

Along with 2023’s Anyone but You, Sweeney recently played Julia Cornwall in 2024’s Madame Web and Cecilia in 2024’s Immaculate. She’ll soon be seen in Ron Howard’s Eden, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival this past September.

Euphoria Season 3 does not have a premiere date at this time.
