Police arrest 6 in Yobe for alleged theft, criminal trespass, vandalism
The Yobe State Police Command said it has nabbed six suspected criminals who specialised in various acts of criminality in Damaturu and its environs.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, made this known in a statement released on Monday and made available to newsmen.
He said the suspects specialised in shoplifting, theft, criminal trespass, and burglary on public and private buildings. Their arrest, according to him, followed a series of reports received by the police from members of the public with the Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, ordering a stakeout to apprehend perpetrators.
“On November 10, 2024, at 2 pm, the police received a distress call from one Mallam Musa Audu of Nayinawa Ward, Damaturu, stating that six tyres and five windscreens of tricycles parked in his vicinity had been stolen by suspected thieves at 5:40 am the previous day.
” A Divisional Police Station swiftly responded, apprehending six syndicate members: Abubakar Ahmed, Hassan Musa, Shayibu Adamu, Ahmed Ismail, Babagana Lawan and Gambo Daiyyabu, 52, of Nayinawa Ward, all in Damaturu,” he added.
According to him, items recovered from the suspects include 13 tricycle tyres, six windscreens, four crates of empty Coca-Cola bottles, two bicycles and a toolbox.
“The suspects confessed to the crime and are cooperating with the investigation,” DSP Abdulkarim said.
