Suspected maize thief stabs woman to death in Adamawa
A woman in Adamawa State has been killed by a young man she allegedly caught stealing her maize.
The man, 20-year-old Abubakar Abdu, has been arrested for allegedly stabbing the woman, 30-year-old Azumi Abubakar, to death.
The Adamawa State Police Command, which arrested the man, said in a press statement on Monday that Police operatives, on November 10, apprehended Abdu for killing Azumi.
Abdu is a resident of Gengle village of Mayo Belwa Local Government Area.
According to the statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Nguroje, “The suspect had on 7/11/2024, at about 0300hrs broke into the house of the victim and stole some quantity of maize.”
The Police added that as the suspect was in the course of escaping, the victim, sighting and identifying him, called him by his name.
“Upon realizing that he was noticed, the suspect immediately attacked the victim by stabbing her with a knife, as a result of which she died.”
It said the suspect was arrested after a complaint from the victim’s husband
“The suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed,” the Police assured.
