Knowles was born to his parents, Eddie Knowles and Pat Knowles, and grew up alongside his siblings, Karen Knowles, Sheila Knowles, Angela Knowles, and John Knowles.

Knowles had a diverse educational background. He moved to Mildenhall in Suffolk and attended St Louis Middle School in Bury St Edmunds. He then moved again and attended Gunnersbury Catholic School for Boys.

After another family move to Deakin Leas in Tonbridge, he attended the Skinners’ School in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, where he passed eight O-levels and excelled at rugby. Knowles is white ethnically and practices Christianity as his religion.

Career

Nick Knowles began his career in television production as a runner before moving into presenting. He is principally known as the primary host of the home renovation series DIY SOS, which has aired on BBC One since 1999.

Knowles has also presented several other factual and entertainment programs for the BBC, including Real Rescues, Who Dares Wins, Last Choir Standing, Guesstimation, Secret Fortune, and Perfection. He has also hosted shows with a wildlife theme, such as Mission Africa and Wildest Dreams.

From 2011 to 2015, Knowles presented the BBC game show Perfection. He has also presented the BBC National Lottery game shows Break the Safe and 5-Star Family Reunion.

In 2016, Knowles presented a one-off BBC program about the Invictus Games. He earned between £300,000 and £349,999 as a BBC presenter in the 2016-2017 financial year.
