EPL: Van Nistelrooy hopes to build on Man Utd win, as Chelsea eye top four
The stage is set for the biggest Premier League match of this weekend as Manchester United hosts Chelsea at Old Trafford ahead of the international break.
The Red Devils head to the game following a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United in their last Premier League game on 27 October.
Man United will be led by interim manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy, having sacked Erik ten Hag last Monday after the West Ham defeat.
They have since appointed Portuguese manager, Ruben Amorim, who will take charge of the club from November 11.
Man United will be hoping to bounce back from their last defeat to West Ham when they tackle Chelsea on Sunday evening.
A victory against the Blues will take them to 10th position on the Premier League if Tottenham Hotspur lose to Aston Villa today.
Man United currently occupy the 13th position, with 11 points from nine matches.
Their interim manager, Van Nistelrooy will seek a repeat of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup 5-2 victory of Leicester against a team in a similar shade of Chelsea this time around as he awaits Amorim to replace him in the coming days.
Van Nistelrooy has no need to make major alterations to the winning formula from the Carabao either way.
The Dutchman could utilised the fresh legs of Noussair Mazraoui and Rasmus Hojlund over Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee from the first whistle, while Andre Onana is expected to replace Altay Bayindir in goal.
Chelsea, on the other hand, head to the game following a 2-1 win over Newcastle United in their last Premeir League game last weekend.
The Blues, however, were defeated 2-0 against the same opponent Newcastle in the Carabao Cup in mid-week.
Chelsea Manager, Enzo Maresca will be without Jadon Sancho for today’s game, as the England winger is unable to face his parent club.
As a result, Pedro Neto should hold the fort on the left once.
A win for Chelsea against United will see Maresca’s side enter the top four positions ahead of Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
Chelsea currently sit in the 6th position on the Premier League table, with 17 points from nine matches.
The kick-off time for the match is 5.30 pm, Nigerian time.
