Marcelo is now a free agent after his contract with Fluminense was terminated.
This development was confirmed by football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, via his X account on Saturday.
Romano wrote: “Real Madrid legend Marcelo, now available as a free agent as his contract at Fluminense has been terminated.”
The club’s decision may not be unconnected to the player’s behaviour clash with Mano Menezes.
Marcelo was benched by Menezes following a heated disagreement over game tactics.
The 36-year-old, who boasts a remarkable five Champions League titles, departed the Bernabeu in 2022 after an illustrious 15-year career in Spain. He then signed with Olympiacos for a season before returning to Brazil last year to don the colours of his boyhood club, Fluminense.
During his time with Fluminense, Marcelo has made 68 appearances for the club, which currently sits in 12th place in the Brazilian top division.
