UNIPORT final year student sentenced to 14 years for Internet fraud

A final-year University of Port Harcourt student, Henry Nathaniel Ekanem, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to internet fraud charges. The sentencing occurred during a federal high court session in Rivers State, presided over by Judge A. T. Mohammed. Ekanem, charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a seven-count indictment, was found guilty of impersonation and obtaining money under false pretenses.

One of the charges detailed how Ekanem defrauded $22 from a victim, Diana Roskov, by posing as Coran Capsha, manager of singer Chris Stapleton. The judge imposed a two-year sentence for each count, with the option of a fine. Additionally, all confiscated phones were ordered, forfeited, and Ekanem must submit an affidavit of good behavior to the court.
