‘It’s obviously special’ – Lookman proud to be nominated for Ballon d’or award

Ademola Lookman reckoned making the 2024 Ballon d’or nomination list is something special.

Lookman followed in the footsteps of Victor Osimhen, who was nominated for the prestigious award last year.

The Atalanta star is the only African player, who made the shortlist this year.

The winger was recognised for his exemplary display for Nigeria and Atalanta.

Lookman shone for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring three goals in seven appearances.

The 27-year-old also scored a historic hat-trick in the final of the UEFA Europa League, with Atalanta claiming a 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen.

“It’s obviously special being in the list. I have achieved great things for club and country. It’s been a defining year in terms of progress and steps taken, which I’m very proud of,” Lookman told BBC.

“This is just the start. Obviously, great things come with hard work, so, working hard is an important thing to me,” the former Everton man spoke on how he feels to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or.”
