UCL: Arsenal player Guardiola phoned after Man City won title revealed
Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, personally called Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko moments after his team won the Champions League in 2023.
Despite increasing tensions between City and the Gunners, Guardiola has always maintained a close relationship with Zinchenko who played under him until 2022.
The 27-year-old has made 70 appearances for Arsenal since he left the Etihad.
Zinchenko, in his new book titled ‘Believe’ has now revealed that Guardiola made a personal phone call to him on the night that City completed a historic treble.
He wrote: “I guess no one was sleeping that night.
“But to get a call from Pep? I couldn’t believe it. He said, ‘Alex, you are a big part of this’ – I was fully surprised, in a good way.
“I said to him, again, a massive thanks for everything he did for me. It shows how good-humoured he could be.”
