New Alien vs. Predator Movie ‘Probably’ Coming, Won’t Be What Fans Think

Both the Alien and Predator franchises have seen new entries in the recent years, and according to 20th Century Studios‘ president Steve Asbell, a new Alien vs. Predator movie is likely to happen in the future.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Asbell was asked about the potential of a new AVP movie, and said that we will “probably” eventually see one. He went on to say that it wouldn’t be how fans think, however, and wouldn’t just be made to “bang it out.”

What do we know about a new Alien vs. Predator movie?

“It wouldn’t be in the way you think. That’s the thing. Not in the way that it will just be called Alien vs. Predator or anything like the original movies,” said Asbell. “If we do this, they’ll be organically created out of these two franchises that we’ve continued with characters that we fall in love with and those characters will combine…perhaps. But we haven’t gotten to that point. And we’re not just going to bang it out.”

Alongside the news of a new Alien vs. Predator movie, Asbell also revealed some surprising news, including the fact that two Predator movies are in the works. He also updated fans on the status of an Alien: Romulus sequel, which is also in development.

Originally released in 2004, Alien vs. Predator was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, and starred Sanaa Lathan, Raoul Bova, Lance Henriksen, Ewen Bremner, Colin Salmon, and Tommy Flanagan. Like the film’s title suggests, the movie largely focuses on a battle between Aliens and Predators. The film received generally negative reviews, but did make $177.4 million at the worldwide box office.

The concept of “Alien vs. Predator” has also been explored throughout other mediums, and was originally shown off in a 1989 comic book written by Randy Stradley and Chris Warner. There’s also the hit 1994 Capcom beat ’em up, as well as a series of first-person shooters from Rebellion.
