There was panic on Thursday as the Five-Star foot pedestrian bridge on the ever-busy Oshodi-Apapa Expressway in Lagos collapsed on Thursday.
It was gathered that the bridge partially collapsed around 6:30 a.m., blocking a part of the road.
Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said preliminary investigations revealed that an articulated truck carrying heavy equipment collided with the bridge earlier in the day, causing cracks and subsequent collapse.
LASEMA cordoned off the entire bridge and initiated decommissioning efforts to remove remaining concrete members to ensure public safety.
LASEMA’s heavy-duty equipment was deployed to evacuate the impediment and prevent secondary incidents.
As of the latest update, recovery operations were ongoing, with efforts focused on completely removing all concrete debris from the road.
