Five suspects arrested over alleged murder of Unilorin graduate, Lanre Adebayo

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of five suspects in connection with the alleged murder of the University of Ilorin graduate, Lanre Adebayo, by security men at the Ita-Elepa area of Ilorin, the state capital.

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, however, said the suspects are all males, contrary to earlier reports that two females were among those arrested.

Earlier efforts to reach the police spokesperson proved abortive, as calls and text messages sent to her cellphone were not responded to.

Adebayo, the 46-year-old political science graduate of the University of Ilorin, was allegedly murdered on Sunday in the Ita-Elepa area of the Ilorin metropolis by local security men of the community.

Arrested by police operatives on Tuesday, they were whisked away to the Kwara State Police Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters in Ilorin.

Lanre was allegedly murdered on Sunday at Ita-Elepa, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, during a heated argument between him and the local security men on his way home.

It was gathered that the deceased was allegedly macheted to death in the brutal encounter, which occurred at about 10 pm.
