AFCON 2025 qualifier: Super Eagles stay top in Group D after Rwanda beat Benin Republic

The Super Eagles maintained top spot on Group D of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series after Rwanda claimed a 2-1 victory over Benin Republic in Kigali on Tuesday night.

The Eagles were initially scheduled to face the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in Benina tonight.

The encounter has however been postponed by the Confederation of African Football, CAF.

CAF took the decision following the inhumane treatment the Super Eagles players were subjected to by Libyan authorities in the North African country.

Andeas Hountondji gave Benin the lead three minutes before the break at the Amahoro Stadium.

The hosts however fought back after the break through goals from Innocent Nshuti and Djihad Bizimana.

Nigeria occupy top spot on the table with seven points from three games.

Benin Republic sit in second position with six points, while Rwanda occupy third spot with five points. The two countries have played four games each.

Libya have one point from three games.
