FUNAAB gets NUCs approval for Eight New Programmes
In a strategic move to broaden its academic offerings and meet the growing demands for higher education among Nigeria's teeming youths, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for the introduction of eight new programmes at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB). The programmes would officially commence in the 2024/2025 Academic Session, positioning FUNAAB as a University on par with its global counterparts.
The newly approved programmes are Bachelor of Library and Information Science (B.LIS), B.Sc. Data Science, B.Sc. Cyber Security, B.Sc. Information Systems and B.Sc. Software Engineering. Others are B.Sc. Information and Communication Technology, B.Sc. Information Technology and B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry.
Notably, six of the programmes fall under the broad discipline of Computer Science, prompting the creation of three new Departments to house two programmes each.
The expansion highlights FUNAAB's commitment to advancing in-demand fields such as Data Science, Cyber Security, and Software Engineering, areas that are pivotal in today’s digital economy.
With this significant development, FUNAAB is well-positioned to provide its students with cutting-edge skills and knowledge, ensuring they are equipped to contribute to the country’s technological and industrial growth.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has conveyed his gratitude to the Ag. Executive Secretary of the NUC, Dr. Chris Miyaki, for approving the commencement of the new programmes, after the rigorous Resource Verification Exercise.
