RoboCop TV Show Reveals Logline & Showrunner, James Wan Involved
The RoboCop show at Amazon is moving forward.
The RoboCop franchise began in 1987 with the Paul Verhoeven-directed movie starring Peter Weller. It was followed by two sequels, 1990’s RoboCop 2 and 1993’s RoboCop 3, along with a 2014 reboot starring Joel Kinnaman.
Shortly after Amazon acquired MGM, it was reported that the studio was looking to adapt RoboCop into a television show.
Now, per Variety, the project is moving forward as Peter Ocko has signed on to write and executive produce the series. Ocko will also serve as the showrunner.
The Conjuring’s James Wan, meanwhile, will executive producer under his Atomic Monster banner.
What is the logline for the RoboCop show?
“A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine,” the official logline reads.
Further details remain under wraps at this time. No casting information has been announced.
Along with Ocko and Wan, the RoboCop series will be executive-produced by Michael Clear and Rob Hackett for Atomic Monster.
Ocko has previously written episodes and produced a number of television series such as Wierd Science, Dead Like Me, and Pushing Daisies. He was a co-executive producer on The Office and also the showrunner on AMC’s Lodge 49.
There have been a number of RoboCop television series prior to Amazon’s new show. There was a live-action series in 1994 that starred Richard Eden as Officer Alex James Murphy, along with a 2001 Candian miniseries titled RoboCop: Prime Directives. There have also been two animated shows, 1988’s RoboCop and 1998’s RoboCop: Alpha Commando. There have additionally been a number of RoboCop video games, comic books, and more.
A release date for the new RoboCop television series has not yet been announced by Amazon.
