NSUK has not increased school fee, 3rd semester has come to stay' says VC

The Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has declared that it has not jerked up the school fee charged students of the University. The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Sa'adatu Hassan Liman gave the clarification on Monday 23rd September 2024 when she held an expanded security meeting with heads of security agencies, leaders of student union bodies, and heads of religious organisations of the University at the Senate Chamber of the University.

Professor Sa'adatu stated that the clarification became necessary in order to address the misleading information being spread by some discontent individuals who are bent on causing disaffection between the management of the University and unsuspecting students by spreading the inciting news that management has increased school fee.

The Vice-Chancellor explained that those agitating to hold the protest against the implementation of Third Semester program were the same group of people using the purported increase in school fee to lure students to the protest which is planned to hold on the Wednesday 25th September 2024.

She reiterated that the management of the University has not increased school fees and if at all any increment will be effected, the students will be carried along for inclusivity and also to factor in their inputs.

On the Third Semester Program, the Vice-Chancellor explained that the program is optional for students who want to take part in it and it is not mandatory. She noted that the program is meant to cater for those students who have multiple carry overs and cannot wait for another academic session to sit for those carry overs can cash in the opportunity of the Third Semester which lasts for 3 weeks to allow the students clear their carry over courses.

Professor Sa'adatu further explained that the Twenty Thousand Naira per course that students are required to pay is meant to take care of emoluments of lecturers handling the courses in the Third Semester program. She noted that the Third Semester Program is a novel innovation which most Nigerian Universities have embraced.
