Portugal to launch new currency in honour of Cristiano Ronaldo
Portugal is set to launch a new Euro coin in honour of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Journalist, Carol Radull reports that the move is in favour of the 39-year-old’s tremendous achievements for club and country during his glittering football career.
Ronaldo has made his name at Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus and is now changing the face of the game in Saudi Arabia.
The iconic figure is the all-time leading goalscorer in men’s international football and has scored 132 times for his national team in a record 214 caps.
Ronaldo was instrumental in Portugal’s historic Euro 2016 triumph and also lifted the UEFA Nations League trophy with A Selecao in 2019.
The four-time European Golden Shoe winner has millions of fans around the world and recently made history by becoming the first person to have 1 billion followers across various social media platforms.
He now has crossed the prestigious 900-goal threshold in his career and has shown no signs of slowing down.
Ronaldo started his career at Sporting CP before becoming a household name at Manchester United.
Portugal is reportedly set to launch a new 7 Euro coin in recognition of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s achievement.
Interestingly, the number is synonymous with their prodigal son, who has donned that shirt number for almost his entire career.
