Darla in Space Trailer Sets Release Date for Quirky Sci-Fi Comedy Movie

Darla in Space is a new sci-fi comedy movie starring Alex E. Harris. Co-written and co-directed by Eric Laplante and Susie Moon, the film will be getting a limited theatrical release in New York City later this month before it releases on digital platforms in October.

What is Darla in Space about?

“Darla in Space tells the story of Darla Peterson, who learns that she owes an incredible $349,000.22 in taxes on her business designing custom Kitty Kaskets,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “While mulling over how to pay off this debt, Darla happens to stumble upon the discovery of a lifetime in the warehouse she cleans as a side-gig; a sentient kombucha scoby named Mother. With Mother’s talent for granting mind-blowing orgasms, Darla sees an opportunity to raise the money she needs. Mother has her own conditions, however: she wants Darla’s help getting to space.”

Along with Harris, the movie stars Constance Shulman, Thomas Jay Ryan, Jenn Lyon, Rasheda Crockett, Eamon O’Connell, and JS Oliver.

“Darla in Space is a movie with very specific perspectives and artistic choices,” Laplante and Moon said in a statement. “We made it because no one else was going to, and everyone needs to meet Darla Peterson.”

Freestyle Digital Media acquired the North American VOD rights to the movie out of the 2024 Slamdance Film Festival, which was held in January. The movie also screened at the Indianapolis International Film Festival in April 2024.

Darla in Space will receive a limited theatrical release at the Quad Cinema in New York City on September 27, 2024. It will then debut on North American VOD platforms and on DVD on October 25, 2024.
