Benicio del Toro Cast in New Paul Thomas Anderson Movie With Leonardo DiCaprio

Benicio del Toro will be joining the cast of the new Paul Thomas Anderson movie.

According to a recent article from The Hollywood Reporter, del Toro will join Leonardo DiCaprio in Anderson’s new, still untitled movie just as soon as the Sicario actor finishes filming scenes for Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme.

No further details were given, meaning it’s currently unclear how large of a role del Toro will have in the movie.

Del Toro and Anderson have worked together before, however, as del Toro played Sauncho Smilax in 2014’s Inherent Vice, which was written and directed by Anderson and also starred Joaquin Phoenix, Josh Brolin, Owen Wilson, Katherine Waterston, and Reese Witherspoon.

Benicio del Toro is also known for starring in movies such as 1995’s The Usual Suspects, 2000’s Traffic, 2000’s Snatch, 2005’s Sin City, 2012’s Savages, 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, 2021’s No Sudden Movie, and 2021’s The French Dispatch. He additionally plays The Collector in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Who else has been cast in Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie with Benicio del Toro?

In addition to DiCaprio and del Toro, Anderson’s new film will star Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Shayna McHayle, and Chase Infiniti.

Plot details for the movie, which has the working title “BC Project,” remain under wraps at this time. Anderson wrote the script for the project and serves as a producer alongside Sara Murphy and Adam Somner.

Anderson, meanwhile, is known for making 1996’s Hard Eight, 1997’s Boogie Nights, 1999’s Magnolia, 2002’s Punch-Drunk Love, 2007’s There Will Be Blood, 2012’s The Master, 2017’s Phantom Thread, and 2021’s Licorice Pizza in addition to Inherent Vice.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s next movie is currently scheduled to be released in United States theaters on August 8, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures. It will also play on IMAX screens, making it Anderson’s first movie to ever do so.
