House of the Dragon Renewed for Season 3 Ahead of Season 2 Premiere

House of the Dragon Season 3 is a go at HBO

Announced in a press release, HBO has renewed the Game of Thrones spin-off series, House of the Dragon, for a third season. The news comes just days before House of the Dragon Season 2 will premiere on Max.

“George, Ryan, and the rest of our incredible executive producers, cast, and crew, have reached new heights with the phenomenal second season of House of the Dragon,” said HBO’s Francesca Orsi. “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart. We could not be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and watch this team burn bright again for season three.”

What do we know about House of the Dragon Seasons 3 and 2?

House of the Dragon is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blod. The series is set approximately 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows the rise and fall of House Targaryen.

The first season of House of the Dragon premiered in August 2022. The second season will now launch on Max on Sunday, June 16, 2024. House of the Dragon Season 3 does not yet have a premiere date.

The cast of House of the Dragon Season 2 includes Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Glynn-Carney, Ewan Mitchell, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban Jefferson Hall, Abubakar Salim, Gayle Rankin, Freddie Fox, Simon Russell Beale, Clinton Liberty, Jamie Kenna, Kieran Bew, Tom Bennett, Tom Taylor, and Vincent Regan.

Ryan Condal serves as the creator, showrunner, and executive producer on House of the Dragon Season 2, while Martin also serves as co-creator and executive producer. Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis also serve as executive producers.
