Starve Acre Trailer & Poster Revealed for Matt Smith Folk Horror

A new Starve Acre trailer and poster have been released for the British folk horror movie starring Matt Smith, of House of the Dragon and Doctor Who fame.

Written and directed by Daniel Kokotajlo, Starve Acre is an unsettling folk horror. It’s based on Andrew Michael Hurley’s 2019 novel of the same name. It’s being distributed by Brainstorm Media, having had a successful festival run.

The moody atmosphere in the trailer below is worth observing, and check out the new poster as well. Evidently, the film aims for a classic folk horror feel, and it looks like it’s pulling it off pretty well, too!

When their son starts acting strangely, a couple (Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark) unwittingly allow dark and sinister forces into their home. This awakens a long-dormant ancient evil rooted deep in rural Yorkshire during the 1970s.

Starve Acre also stars Erin Richards, Sean Gilder, Robert Emms, Roger Barclay, and Maltilda Firth. It’s produced by Tessa Ross, Juliette Howell, Derrin Schlesinger, and Emma Duffy.

Soon, Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark will be coming up on the second season of their respective fantasy shows. Smith will be in the new season of House of the Dragon. Clark plays a young Galadriel in Prime Video’s Rings of Power series.

Starve Acre will be released in theaters and on-demand on July 26, 2024.
