Denis Leary to Star in Fox Comedy Series Going Dutch

Denis Leary will star in Fox’s new comedy Going Dutch, Deadline reports. In addition to starring, Leary will also serve as the show’s executive producer alongside Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll’s Jack Leary through their Amoeba production banner.

Casting for the newly greenlit series, which hails from creator/showrunner Joel Church-Cooper (Brockmire), is currently underway, with other details confirmed to be coming out at a later date.

“We are thrilled to be back in business with Denis Leary. Going Dutch captures Denis’s comic genius and in-your-face storytelling style,” FOX Television Network president Michael Thorn said in a statement (via Deadline). “Denis, Jack and our showrunner and creator Joel have brilliantly envisioned this original, offbeat take and inherently funny salute to the military workplace comedy. We also believe their show is the perfect comedy companion to our hit Animal Control.”

What is Going Dutch about?

Going Dutch will center on an arrogant US army colonel (played by Leary), whose recent “unfiltered rant” resulted in him being reassigned to the Netherlands, “where he is punished with a command position at the least important army base in the world.” A well-respected army colonel, who had previously served in a warzone for the last three decades, will be working in a base he’s not accustomed to: “no guns, weapons, or tactical purpose.”

Per the synopsis, courtesy of Deadline, the base — instead of guns and weapons — features a “Michelin-star level commissary, a top-notch bowling alley, and the best (and only) fromagerie in the U.S. Army. Surrounded by a diverse group of underdogs, the colonel tries to reinstall military discipline and professionalism with the help of the base’s previous interim leader, who happens to be his estranged daughter.”

Leary is best known for his starring roles in features and television shows like The Sandlot, Suicide Kings, True Crime, The Moodys, Law & Order: Organized Crime, and The Amazing Spider-Man, among others. He has also lent his voice to a slew of animated films, including A Bug’s Life and the Ice Age franchise.
