Plainclothes: Hunger Games Prequel Star Tom Blyth to Lead ’90s Queer Drama Movie
After garnering positive reviews for his leading performance in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Tom Blyth has finally found his next lead role.
According to Variety, Blyth and Quantico’s Russell Tovey have been cast to lead the upcoming independent movie Plainclothes about an undercover officer getting infatuated with someone he’s supposed to arrest. Production will take place in Syracuse, New York.
What to expect from Plainclothes?
Plainclothes will be written and directed by Carmen Emmi in his feature-length directorial debut. Inspired by true events, the film will be set in the ’90s following “a working-class undercover officer is tasked with entrapping and apprehending gay men, only to find himself drawn to one of his targets.” It is produced by Arthur Landon, Colby Cote, and Eric Podwall for Page 1 Entertainment and Lorton Entertainment.
“Carmen Emmi is one of those unique talents who truly deserves a platform for his creative ingenuity,” Cote and Landon said in a statement. “Plainclothes’ is a heartfelt story that deals with internal conflict, family and the complexities of sexual identity in the face of societal and personal expectations. We are excited to bring his first screenplay life with this incredible cast.”
Apart from his performance in The Hunger Games prequel, Blyth is also best known for his leading role in MGM+’s ongoing Billy the Kid series. He will next be seen in the film adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms novel.
