Christophe Galtier provides update on star PSG forward after Lorient victory
Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has cooled fears over an injury picked up by Kylian Mbappe during Sunday's victory over Lorient.
The Frenchman was forced off with five minutes to go in the 2-1 victory and was seen speaking with club medical staff before heading straight down the tunnel before the final whistle, sparking concerns over his fitness and, given the timing, his involvement at the World Cup later this month.
However, Galtier was quick to deny Mbappe has picked up an injury and instead suggested his late substitution was more precautionary than anything else.
“Muscle fatigue, but no worries,” Galtier said.
“There is no alert on a specific area. It’s simply fatigue, linked to the sequence of matches. The playing conditions were difficult. The ground was hard to master technically.
“And then we faced an opponent who played hard and gave us problems in the second half. … He came out tired in the game against Juventus on Wednesday night....It is a very busy schedule. There can be some apprehension. Everyone is listening to his body in this pre-World Cup and pre-list period.”
Mbappe isn't the only PSG forward who will be watching their fitness as Lionel Messi ended up missing the game with an Achilles injury.
PSG have described his absence as 'precautionary' but, with the World Cup set to get underway in just two weeks, all eyes will be on Messi's recovery.
