The Guncle: Pitch Perfect Director to Helm Comedy-Drama Film for Lionsgate
According to Deadline, Lionsgate has officially enlisted Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore to helm its upcoming film adaptation of The Guncle, based on Steven Rowley’s bestselling novel of the same name.
“Steven Rowley’s book The Guncle captured my heart right away,” Moore said in a statement. “It is hilarious in its observation of the intersection of wanting a family and not being fully equipped yet to run one. I’m thrilled to be collaborating with my friends at Lionsgate again to bring this story to audiences.”
The Guncle will be written by Rowley, who will also be serving as an executive producer. Producers are Kristin Burr, Rob Weisbach, and Jessica Friedman for Burr! Productions. Meanwhile, James Myers and Scott O’Brien will be overseeing the project for Lionsgate.
“The story follows a reclusive, once-famous gay television star who takes his young niece and nephew into his Palm Springs home after their mother dies suddenly, introducing them to his outsized life and unique wisdom and bringing about healing for all three,” reads the synopsis.
Besides the 2012 musical comedy, Moore has only directed two other films so far: the 2015 buddy comedy Sisters starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and the upcoming romantic action film Shot Wedding starring Jennifer Lopez.
