Christina Hendricks Joins Cast of Apple TV+'s The Buccaneers Adaptation
Christina Hendricks is set to star in an upcoming series adaptation of Edith Wharton’s unfinished novel The Buccaneers, according to a recent report from Deadline.
Hendricks will play the role of Mrs. St. George in the series, which is set to also star Kristine Froseth, Alisha Boe, Josie Totah, Aubri Ibrag, Imogen Waterhouse, and Mia Threapleton. In the series, Mrs. St. George is the mother of buccaneers Nan and Jinny (Froseth and Waterhouse), and someone who aims to keep her daughters happy above all else.
The as-of-yet untitled series will be written by Katherine Jakeways (Tracey Ullman’s Show) and directed by Susanna White (Bleak House, Generation Kill). The series is set to be produced by The Forge Entertainment, and is already under production, with filming for the series currently ongoing in Scotland.
The series is based on an unfinished novel written by Wharton. Despite being unfinished at the time of Wharton’s death in 1937, The Buccaneers was published in 1938, and was eventually finished by Marion Mainwaring in 1993 through the use of Wharton’s detailed outlining of the novel as guidance on the plot. The book revolves around five wealthy and ambitious American girls and their guardians as they look to try and find husbands who marry various impoverished Englishmen.
