The Powerpuff Girls, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends Reboots in the Works at Cartoon Network
New versions of the hit Cartoon Network series The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends are in the works, according to Warner Bros. and Cartoon Network.
Craig McCracken, who created both series, will be returning to the two new reboots, both of which have no definitive release date or information but will likely begin development sooner rather than later. In a statement on the news, the president of Cartoon Network Studios, Warner Bros. Animation, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe Sam Register confirmed the reboots and praised McCracken for his brilliance in creating the original series.
“The Hanna-Barbera homecoming of Craig was an opportunity we could not pass up,” Register said (via The Hollywood Reporter). “Along with his unparalleled sense of fun and imagination, he’s bringing two of his greatest works in The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends and we are so excited for these characters to be a part of the new legacy taking shape at the studio.”
Not too much is known about either series, The Powerpuff Girls will once again focus on the three titular girls, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup, as they go about their lives fighting crime and also living the life of three schoolchildren. The series is no stranger to the reboot formula, as Cartoon Network actually rebooted the series already in 2016-19. However, that series was without McCracken’s involvement.
While The Powerpuff Girls was one of the biggest shows for Cartoon Network in the 90s, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends was more of a cult classic when it debuted in the 2000s. Despite debuting to mixed reviews, the series quickly became a smash hit amongst fans later in its lifespan, and is now considered one of the most underrated animated series of its time.
