Erik ten Hag labels Christian Eriksen an 'absolute advantage' for Man Utd
Manchester United are at an ‘absolute advantage’ thanks to the signing of Christian Eriksen in the words of new manager Erik ten Hag.
Eriksen was confirmed as United’s second signing of the summer on Friday, following in the footsteps of Tyrell Malacia and shortly before the club also announced a deal with Ajax to land centre-back Lisandro Martinez.
The Dane was previously a Premier League star while at Tottenham, before heading to Italy with Inter. His career there was halted when he suffered a cardiac arrest while on the pitch at Euro 2020 and was not medically permitted to play in Serie A with an ICD device he subsequently had fitted.
But Eriksen showed during a short-term contract with Brentford that he can still be an influential Premier League player and opted to accept an offer from United than stay with the Bees.
“It’s an absolute advantage that we have him in,” Ten Hag told ManUtd.com.
“I think he is a magnificent football player and I think the fans will enjoy watching him, because he’s creative, he has ideas. I think especially our strikers will also be happy because he’s the one who can involve them in the game.”
Ten Hag also stressed that the most important thing for United in the transfer this summer is quality over quantity, perhaps addressing some of the concerns that the club hasn’t been busy enough.
“I think we were really selective,” the boss said.
“It was not the point to get players in, but the right players in.”
