Channing Tatum Replaces Chris Evans in Apple's Project Artemis Film

According to Deadline, 21 Jump Street star Channing Tatum has officially signed on to star opposite Scarlett Johansson in Apple Studios’ upcoming space race film, Project Artemis. In addition, Arrowverse creator Greg Berlanti has also joined the project as its newest director, following Jason Bateman’s exit last month.

Tatum will be replacing Marvel Cinematic Universe vet Chris Evans for the leading role, which would have served as the reunion project between Evans and Johansson. Evans decided to exit the high-profile film due to scheduling conflicts with his upcoming films Pain Hustlers and Big Red One.

“We are thrilled to welcome Greg Berlanti and Channing Tatum to Project Artemis,” producer Jonathan Lia said in a statement. “Greg’s passion for character and storytelling has driven his decades-long career in film & TV. We couldn’t be more excited for him to lead our team on this journey. We have been huge fans of Channing’s for a long time and are so honored to finally have the opportunity to work with him.”

Project Artemis is written by Rose Gilroy, and will reportedly be set against the space race. Further details about its plot and characters are still being kept under wraps. The acquisition deal reportedly cost Apple more than $100 million. The project will be produced by Johansson, Jonathan Lia, and Keenan Flynn through their These Pictures banner.

Tatum’s notable film credits include Coach Carter, Step Up, Magic Mike, 21 Jump Street, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, The Hateful Eight, and more. He will next be seen in HBO Max’s Magic Mike’s Last Dance and the film Pussy Island, which will be Zoe Kravitz’s feature directorial debut.
