Laughter can be heard in the background during the eight-second clip, although it is unclear whether children were in the classroom at the school in Dallas, Texas.

Education bosses launched an investigation after copies of the video were watched and retweeted thousands of the times on YouTube and Twitter.

The clip sparked fury among some social media users, who called for Modi to be fired.
