Chris Evans Would Love to Play Johnny Storm Again: It’s an Easier Sell Than Captain America
Prior to his iconic turn as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Evans starred as Johnny Storm, a.k.a. The Human Torch. According to Evans, he wouldn’t mind stepping back into the role if asked.
Speaking to MTV News, Evans was asked about his former role in 2005’s Fantastic Four and the 2007 sequel film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The actor said that he had never been offered a shot at returning to the role.
“God, wouldn’t that be great? No one’s ever come to me about that,” said Evans. “I mean, I don’t exactly look the same anymore. That was 15, almost 20 years ago. But I really love that character. But I think… aren’t they doing something now with Fantastic Four?”
Evans was then asked about the possibility of returning to the role thanks to the introduction of things like multiverses in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Evans acknowledged that all bets were off when it came to that kind of stuff, but that he thinks it’d be an easier idea to return as The Human Torch than it would Captain America.
“[I guess] all bets are off. Look, I would love it,” Evans said. “I would love it. That would actually be an easier sell to me than coming back as Cap. Cap is so precious to me. [I] almost don’t wanna disrupt what a beautiful experience that was. But Johnny Storm, I feel like he didn’t really get his day. That was before Marvel really found its footing. So, I loved that role and who knows.”
