ASUU laments inability of police to rescue kidnapped female lecturer, Christie Angbuku after 1 month

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has lamented that one month after a female lecturer, Christie Angbuku, was abducted, she is yet to be released.

The union called on President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on the police to ensure her release.

Angbuku, a Lecturer 1 in the Department of Biological Sciences of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi was kidnapped on November 16 while on a visit to Kogi.

The ASUU Chairman of the university of Agriculture, Bemgba Anjembe, made this known on Friday in Lokoja at a news conference.

Speaking through the Secretary of the union, Ishaq Eneji, the Chairman said he was dissatisfied that the police had not been able to rescue Ms. Agbulu.

According to him, “The victim was kidnapped as soon as she arrived in the state and the abductors later used her phone to call to demand a ransom of N150, 000.

“One hundred thousand Naira was paid into her account and her abductors quickly withdrew the money using her ATM card.

“The balance of N50,000 could not be paid just as the matter was reported to the police.

“The leadership of the ASUU met with the officials of the state police command on December 1 during which the police assured them that they would do their best to save her.

“Today (Friday) is 17 days after we first came to Lokoja in search of our colleague, and there is no information about her whereabouts.

“The development forced the union to write a petition to the Inspector-General of Police on December 5 and we are yet to get a response.”

While appealing to the lecturer’s abductors to leave her unhurt in the interest of the unity of the country, the ASUU chairman also appealed to Nigerians to volunteer useful information that could lead to the rescue of the lecturer.
