Christian Slater Joins John Cena in Action-Comedy Film Freelance
According to Deadline, Golden Globe winner Christian Slater has been tapped to join the upcoming action-comedy film Freelance, which had just started its production in Columbia. He will be joining previously announced cast members John Cena (The Suicide Squad), Alison Brie (GLOW), and Juan Pablo Raba (The 33).
Freelance will be directed by Taken filmmaker Pierre Morel from a screenplay written by Jacob Lentz. It will be a production by AGC Studios and Endurance Media, who are co-financing the project. It will be produced by Endurance Media’s Steve Richard, alongside Sentient Entertainment’s Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin.
“The film centers on an ex-special forces operator who, desperate to escape his humdrum life, takes a job providing security for a journalist who is hoping to salvage her career by interviewing a dictator,” reads the synopsis. “Things go sideways when a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, and the mismatched duo, along with the dictator, escape to the jungle where they must survive the military chasing them, animals hunting them and each other.”
Slater is received critical acclaim for his Golden Globe-winning role in USA Network’s thriller series Mr. Robot, which ran on-air for four seasons from 2015-2019. His film credits include Heathers, Young Guns II, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, True Romance, Interview with the Vampire, The Contender, Windtalkers, and more.
