David Ayer Confirms Leaked Suicide Squad Script Is Real, Deadshot & Harley Romance Was Filmed
Over the past week, a handful of snippets of what was rumored to be David Ayer’s Suicide Squad script leaked onto social media. Now, the director is confirming the validity of the script, which reveals that a romance between Deadshot and Harley Quinn was in the works.
On Saturday, various pieces of the script were posted to Twitter, and Ayer eventually responded to one of the replies to them. In a tweet asking which of the pages were filmed, Ayer noted that “all of them” were, adding a sad face emoji afterward. This further confirms that Ayer’s version of the film vastly differed from the version that was eventually released, with a romance of some sort between Will Smith’s Deadshot and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn also being put to film.
Recently, Ayer came out on Twitter to defend his role as director of the original Suicide Squad, where he said that his version of the film was a more intricate and emotional journey. “The studio cut is not my movie. Read that again. And my cut is not the 10-week director’s cut – It’s a fully mature edit by Lee Smith standing on the incredibly [sic] work by John Gilroy,” Ayer said in his initial note.
It’s uncertain that fans will ever get to see the proper David Ayer cut of Suicide Squad, but with fans having mobilized and successfully petitioning DC and Warner Bros. to release Zack Snyder’s cut of The Justice League, it’s not impossible the film is released at some point.
