Lucasfilm’s Indiana Jones 5 Adds Boyd Holbrook & Shaunette Renée Wilson
Following the casting of Mads Mikkelsen and Thomas Kretschmann, Lucasfilm is continuing to expand the cast of their long-in-development fifth installment to Indiana Jones with the addition of two actors in more undisclosed roles. Deadline brings word that Logan actor Boyd Holbrook and The Resident actress Shaunette Renée Wilson have been tapped to star opposite franchise star Harrison Ford and new female lead Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The studio is planning to start the long-awaited project’s production this summer, just in time for its 2022 release.
Holbrook’s notable film credits include: The Host, Gone Girl, Run All Night, Jane Got a Gun, Logan, and The Predator. He will next be seen in Netflix’s action-thriller Beckett starring alongside John David Washington and Alicia Vikander. Wilson is best known for her roles in TV shows such as Showtime’s Billions and Fox’s medical drama The Resident. This project marks her first major movie role after appearing as a Dora Milaje in 2018’s Black Panther.
Indiana Jones 5 sees the return of Harrison Ford as he reprises one of his most iconic roles as the titular explorer. It will be directed by Oscar nominee James Mangold (Logan) from a new screenplay his co-writing with Ford v Ferrari collaborators Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. The highly-anticipated sequel is currently scheduled to be released on July 29, 2022.
The project has been in development since 2016 and has already endured many setbacks, including multiple rewrites that came from David Koepp, Jonathan Kasdan (son of Raiders of the Lost Ark writer Lawrence Kasdan), and Dan Fogelman. Another reason why it took so long for the project to take off was when Steven Spielberg had announced last year that he would be exiting his directorial duties for the film. The Oscar-winning filmmaker was the one who directed all of the previous Indiana Jones films. Despite this, he will still remain part of the film’s production as a producer.
Indiana Jones 5 will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, original franchise director Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with John Williams returning to score the film, continuing a musical journey that began 40 years ago with Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Famed archaeologist and explorer Indiana Jones was introduced in 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark – one of AFI’s 100 Greatest American Films of All Time – and later thrilled audiences in 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, 1989’s Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The four films have brought in nearly $2 billion at the global box office.
