Saw 9 Image Reveals Another Spiral For Chris Rock To Investigate

The latest image from Spiral: From The Book of Saw gives Chris Rock's fraying detective a new crime scene to investigate. https://i0.wp.com/storage.waploaded.com/images/5f29f23991e355629184021b6bff75d6.jpgThe Saw franchise, though far from a critical hit, as long been a mainstay of the horror genre. New installments were released yearly from 2004 to 2010 before taking a long break; Jigsaw ended the hiatus in 2017, but the hugely disappointing response put the entire franchise on ice. Spiral's development proved to be quite the surprise, and not only because it was being shepherded by comedian Rock. With its twisty mystery and impressive cast, Spiral is so far shaping up to be a return to form.

Spiral will follow Rock's Detective Ezekiel "Zeke" Banks and his partner William Schenk (Max Minghella) as they investigate a series of grisly murders. Each crime scene is punctuated by a familiar spiral symbol, all but confirming a Jigsaw copycat is at large. Banks finds himself pushed to the breaking point as he hunts for the mysterious killer, who is also targeting dirty cops. Samuel L. Jackson and Marisol Nichols round out the cast of Spiral, which was originally scheduled for release last year. It will now debut next week.

USA Today unveiled a new image from Spiral, which shows Banks and Schenk approaching a truck emblazoned with the killer's signature. This scene was glimpsed at in the full Spiral trailer, though it remains to be seen just what Banks will find inside. However, based on the nature of the Saw franchise, it probably won't be pretty.

Lionsgate definitely has high hopes for Spiral, as Saw 10 is reportedly already in development. Though the film hasn't been released just yet, the pre-premiere buzz is feeling the same optimism as its studio. The dark mystery at the center of Spiral, as well as the addition of Rock and Jackson as a father-son duo, is promising. To truly win back audiences, it will need to learn from Jigsaw's mistakes, but it so far looks like it's moving the franchise forward in a thrilling way.

The Saw series is best known for its gruesome kills and absurd plots, and though Spiral is said to be less violent than what came before, the trailers and images that have been released so far hint there will still be plenty of thrills. The above image alone promises a certain urgency to Banks' investigation, and it will no doubt be exciting to see it all unfold. Good thing Spiral is just about a week away from release, so all questions will be answered soon.
