HSM: The Musical Season 2 Gets May Premiere Date On Disney+
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 2 will arrive on Disney+ in May. It will include new celebrity cameos, like Asher Angel.
Disney+ has confirmed the return date for season 2 of its flagship coming-of-age show, High School Musical: The Musical The Series. A satirical take on Peter Barsocchini's smash-hit High School Musical film series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series follows a new batch of students at Eastwood High - played by Olivia Rodrigo, Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, and Frankie Rodriguez - as they prepare and participate in a staging of the titular musical. Serving as a launch title for the House of Mouse-backed streamer, the show was an instant hit among fans and critics, who praised its brilliant performances, nostalgic styling, jarring premise, infectious energy, and endearing tongue-in-cheek dissection of the source material. The show was renewed for season 2 in October 2019, ahead of the season 1 premiere.
Now, Disney+ has set a release date for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 2. As confirmed by the streamer on Tuesday, the new show will bow on Friday, May 14, 2021. In the 12-episode iteration, the East High Wildcats will prepare for a Beauty and the Beast play to defeat their rival school North High at a high-stakes theater competition. The contest, however, will be more challenging than the students had imagined as it will lead to some changes in loyalties and thrilling revelations. Disney+ also confirmed that season 2 would feature new solos written by Rodrigo and Basssett along with a fresh roster of guest stars, including Derek Hough, Olivia Rose Keegan, Roman Banks, Andrew Barth Feldman, and Asher Angel. Read the official synopsis for season 2 below.
In season two, the East High Wildcats, who are preparing to perform “Beauty and the Beast” as their spring musical, face off against rival school North High to win a prestigious and cutthroat student theater competition. Wigs are snatched, loyalties are tested, and ballads are belted. The season also features brand-new solos written by Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett.
By all means, this announcement is nothing but good news for High School: The Musical: The Series' loyal fans and audiences. Fans have long-awaited the return of their favorite YA show, which was delayed significantly due to the COVID-19-induced production shutdowns. The show did air a Christmas special in December that allowed fans to reconnect with their beloved characters and cherish their fondest holiday memories. But a single episode logically did not suffice in satisfying viewers' yearning for more high-school drama. Now, however, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is all geared up to stage a full-fledged comeback, which is star-studded and filled with brand new melodious ballads.
