Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Gets Christmas Fan Poster
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Gets Christmas Fan Poster
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, which premieres on Disney+ in 2022, receives a fan poster that shows the team decked out for Christmas.
The recently announced Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special has a very Christmasy look thanks to a fan poster. Although Guardians of the Galaxy has been a part of comic books since 1969, the band of misfits led by Star-Lord were relatively unknown when they hit the big screen in the summer of 2014. However, the film went on to become a huge success thanks to the wit and heart inserted into the characters and story by director/writer James Gunn. Those elements were enhanced in the more successful sequel, and the popularity of the Guardians even led to them having important parts in Avengers: Infinity War after originally being set for cameos.
Unfortunately, the highly anticipated third installment of Guardians, which was set to kick off Phase 4 of the MCU, was delayed after Gunn’s firing. But even after he was rehired, it was clear Guardians 3 would have to wait as Gunn completed The Suicide Squad (and now the Peacemaker TV Show). Guardians is still a beloved property, and the team remain an important part of the MCU moving forward, as Star-Lord (and possibly other members) will appear in Thor: Love and Thunder. Also, at the Disney Investor Call, they not only announced the 2023 release date for Guardians 3, but they also announced the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The special, written and directed by Gunn, will premiere on Disney+ in 2022, giving fans even more of their favorite band of misfits. To celebrate the special and the holiday season, the Holiday Special received a special Christmas poster.
A new Instagram post from NovaMCU celebrating Christmas shows a Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special poster with Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Baby Groot, Rocket, Yondu, and Nebula all geared up in festive wear, such as Drax’s Santa hat, while being surrounded by Christmas gifts and a decorated Christmas tree. It’s a fun and festive visual, but the poster is, of course, a cleverly tweaked version of the famous Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 poster, which shows the Guardians leaning against a wall in black and white. Full Instagram post can be seen below:
What makes the poster so much fun is its believability, as Gunn has created such fun and quirky characters that one could foresee a scenario where they are all decked out in Christmas gear. If the official Guardians Holiday Special poster follows this Christmasy path, it certainly would not be a bad idea as it really captures the fun and spirit of a holiday-themed film. What's notable, though, is this fan poster also includes Yondu, who dies in Vol. 2, so it will be interesting to see when this Holiday Special is set and if it will include Yondu as well. Unlike the Star Wars Holiday Special, Gunn’s special will be cannon, so depending on its timeline, it could plant seeds for Guardians 3 as well.
The Holiday Special could also mark the final time fans see all the characters together in a film from start to finish, as earlier this year, Gunn revealed that Guardians 3 features a death, although he didn’t give a clue as to who that will be. Part three will also mark the last film with these members of Guardians of the Galaxy, so the bonus of a Holiday Special is sure to be a fun treat for fans of this specific team. What exactly Gunn has planned for the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, no one knows, but for now, fans can imagine and enjoy this Christmasy fan poster.
