New Promising Young Woman Trailer Announces Christmas 2020 Release Date
The new trailer for Promising Young Woman reveals its updated release date, slated for Christmas Day of this year. Starring Carey Mulligan in the titular role, the film had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January to great acclaim. Multi-hyphenate Emerald Fennell is behind the thriller. After having taken over as showrunner for Killing Eve season 2, Fennell has proven she's adept at crafting a finely tuned thriller/drama, and PYW looks to elaborate on that skill.
Focus Features's new trailer for Promising Young Woman sets the film's release date for December 25, after its April release date was delayed. The trailer begins with an ominous and tense meeting between Mulligan's Cassandra and Connie Britton's character, the Dean at a university where a tragic scandal is at the center of the film's plot. Soon after, a Psycho-esque string version of Britney Spears's "Toxic" starts playing, letting viewers know that this isn't going to be their usual thriller.
A statement is also displayed in the trailer: "Every now and then, a film comes along that ignites a conversation." What sets this apart from similarly-themed #MeToo films such as The Assistant or Bombshell, is that the issue PYW is tackling - assault on college campuses - has existed as a top issue for years. But perhaps the statement is true; hopefully, this ignites a conversation and brings about change.
Promising Young Woman, a "delicious new take on revenge," follows Mulligan's Cassandra, a promising young woman whose life plan is suddenly derailed until an unexpected encounter gives her the chance to right the wrongs.
