Power Tussle: Plateau AFAN rejects court judgment, upholds sitting Chairman as authentic

The All Farmers Association Of Nigeria (AFAN), Plateau State Chapter, on Wednesday rejected the judgment delivered by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Pius Damulak, against Mrs. Sarah Chuwang which threw out the sitting Chairman of AFAN in the State.

The rejection was contained in a press statement signed by the embattled State Chairman of AFAN, Mrs Sarah Chuwang and made available to journalists in Jos.

The statement said the entire members of AFAN as well as the National body has rejected the court’s decision to throw out Mrs. Sarah Chuwang as Chairman of AFAN.

The statement added that an appeal has been filed at the Court of Appeal, Jos division as well as a Stay of Execution.

Also, the National Electoral Committee Secretary, Tunde Arosanyin, has also written to the Honorable Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture, Plateau State, Mrs Lynda Barau, stating that Mrs. Sarah Chuwang remains the Chairman of AFAN and recognized as such by the National body.

Arosanyin’s letter reads, “The National office is not aware of any election before now, therefore anybody that claim to be AFAN’s executive officer in Plateau State outside the leadership of Mrs. Sarah Chuwang is not recognize by the National office.”

It would be recalled that Mr. John Goting Jiler and his group had earlier installed themselves as new leadership of AFAN in Plateau State and had dragged the executive headed by Mrs Chuwang to court seeking to ratify their installation.

The National Vice President AFAN, Mrs Nana Aisha Bashir, has also disowned Mr. John Goting Jiler and his group, stating that AFAN has disassociated itself from all activities concerning Mr. Jiler.

Bashir had also in a press statement, denied knowledge about any election.

It reads, “One Alhaji Yakubu Ibrahim Iro, who is not a bonafide member of AFAN had earlier sworn Mr. John Goting Jiler and his group as new Chairman of the association.

“The whole purported swearing-in exercise is unlawful and therefore void and this is because the constitution of AFAN only allows for a legal practitioner to perform the swearing-in exercise of the executives of AFAN,” Bashir said.
